Physical Therapy
Physical therapy can aid in pain management and can help patients avoid surgery or dependence on pain medication.
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training is one of the most exciting and clinically supported advancements in physical therapy and rehabilitation in recent years. Progression PT is proud to offer this cutting edge treatment modality at our Princeton and Somerville, NJ clinics.
BFR training allows patients to build meaningful muscle strength and mass using very low exercise loads, making it an ideal option for patients who cannot tolerate heavy resistance training due to pain, post-surgical restrictions, or tissue healing constraints.
BFR training works by applying a specialized pneumatic cuff, similar in appearance to a blood pressure cuff, to the proximal portion of the limb being trained. The cuff is inflated to a precise pressure that restricts venous outflow (blood leaving the muscle) while maintaining arterial inflow (blood entering the muscle). This controlled restriction creates a metabolically demanding environment in the muscle tissue, triggering the same physiological adaptations as heavy resistance training, even when the weights being used are only 20 to 30% of the patient’s one rep maximum.
BFR training is particularly valuable in the early phases of post-surgical rehabilitation, such as after:
It is also used for:
Research consistently demonstrates that BFR training produces significant gains in muscle size (hypertrophy), strength, and endurance with minimal joint stress. At Progression PT, BFR training is administered by trained clinicians using calibrated equipment and individualized limb occlusion pressure protocols, ensuring safety and optimal outcomes for every patient.

Rehabilitation is focused on restoring muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion through targeted exercises and activities.
Build muscle strength at very low loads – ideal when heavy lifting is not an option.
We view rehabilitation as more than treating injuries. Our team works closely with each patient to improve movement quality, build resilience, and develop the strength and confidence needed to stay active long after formal therapy has ended.
From post-operative recovery and sports injuries to chronic pain and performance optimization, we help our patients move forward with confidence.
We are located among three medical and office buildings in central Princeton, featuring vaulted glass atriums with natural plantings and ample parking.
We are located in Somerville, New Jersey, featuring a modern storefront clinic with ample on-site parking.
